This post summer it up pretty well. this one and this one raise interesting points too.

I think that the fact that the author has ties to fandom (and not just the ~wholesome parts) and has said she doesn't mind what people ship bothers some people too.

Ohhh thank you for the links! Sounds like typical tumblr hysterics. They say the same thing about Star Wars. Problematic, abusive, racist, etc. The so called "anti's" of tumblr think everything has issues. You kinda just gloss over it.

I'm surprised people would be bothered by her basically giving her blessing to fans to create whatever shippy art they want. If anything I see people reminding others that all ships are welcome, probably because she said that.

Yup. Your typical fandom purity wank. Just turned up to eleven because the creator happens to be much more accessible (she has a Tumblr account and reblogs art from fans etc.), and we know how that goes.

Yeah, the people making content, at least in my heavily filtered Tumblr experience LOL, are pretty chill. Generally the hate comes from people that unabashedly hate the show, though obviously not always. There seems to be some of the typical ship wars masquerading as social justice activism, too (two of the most popular dynamics involve the same ace characters; one is slash and the other het, with the bi lead *points at icon*. You can imagine the Discourse LOL).

Oh lordy....good to know! At least the content creators are just doing what they love and not getting involved in the discourse, for the most part. Not looking forward to more drama once future episodes come out.
