Re: Episodes of Shows That You Like That You Cannot Bear to Watch

Well, I don't know if I've gotten to a point where I can't watch at all, but I have had to skip past awful parts of eps, or just get fucking drunk enough to deal with an episode that was terrible not because of drama, but because the writing was so bad and disrespectful to the characters.

Kind of like That 70s show season 8

Or the last episode of Daria season 4 all the way through to the second movie (to be fair, not ALL the episodes, just the ones centered around you know who).

And I guess now GoT anything after 8.3 hahahahaha fuck

I think I'm a little hesitant to get into anything new at this point. Though I guess only that last one was recent.

I basically don't like any episodes of shows where someone acts wildly OOC for no reason at all. It's so cringe and I just want to slap the writers on the head.

Oh, and like ten years ago... this wasn't a fictional show or anything, but it was either TLC or some other "educational" (quotes deserved) channel featuring a show where people would narrate an illness they had, and the whole thing with the show is if they ended up dead or alive. I forget, and honestly, I don't know why, but at the time, I didn't have a problem with it. But one episode, there was a guy narrating, and at the end he actually died...and was still narrating. That was creepier than anything I'd ever seen (and I am a paranormal activity whore), and I never watched another episode. Not sure that counts though.

This implies I will ever watch GoT again. THANKS SEASON EIGHT.

Yup. With you there. Season 8 ruined the whole show for me. Season 7, in my opinion, wasn't great either. I would have ended the show with Dany heading for Westeros. But it was season 8 that completely destroyed my desire to rewatch the show other than the occasional Dany being awesome or Cersei being awesomely evil clips.

I either headcanon that the show ended after 8.2 (the last actually decent episode) and everyone turned into wights or Ned woke up from his strange dream. I'm not sure which amuses me more.

Some possible good news is GRRM is writing TWoW again so it's possible we'll get some post ADwD content that doesn't suck horribly. I won't hold my breath for ADoS but I can dream (hahah u c wut i did thar).

I absolutely feel the same - not just because of the betrayal of the characters, but all the little details and mysteries that we were excited to see the answer to, that ended up meaning literally nothing. All those theory videos and posts, the games that people made picking out breadcrumbs and speculating on what it might all mean... it meant nothing. Yay.

Yup. I expect some of the book ending to be the same, but expect it to at least be done better because there will be actual answers and things will mean something. There won't just be these mysteries built up to nothing.

The showrunners stopped caring. They just wanted their show to be over. And it showed.

That TLC show you describe...they did something kinda similar for an episode of that "Obsession: Dark Desires" series on the Investigation Discovery channel once. This woman was talking about how she'd been stalked for over 20 years by the son of a man she used to date.

Come to find out at the end that the woman was actually an actress playing the part of the woman the story was about. The woman who'd been stalked had actually been murdered by said stalker. After the reveal this woman being interviewed was an actress, the show did a fade out and then just showed the empty chair while a voiceover mentioned the real life woman had died. It was a super eerie transition.

The whole time I was watching that episode, I was sitting here going, "This story sounds awfully familiar...". Turns out I'd heard it covered on some "Dateline" episode years prior, and I even remember thinking at one point, "Didn't the woman in that case die?" Sure enough...

Anywho, yeah, that TLC episode sounds equally creepy.

ayrt

Honestly, for all I know, it might've been Discovery. I haven't had cable TV in a while so I don't quite remember. But that show definitely left an impression on me.

If it was Discovery, double ugh to them for that murder mystery! That's just gross and they should fire whoever is approving shit like that. These are real people, and this is not a soap opera or something featuring the Kardashians.
