Episodes of Shows That You Like That You Cannot Bear to Watch

(Anonymous) 2020-04-21 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
There are two episodes of Law and Order SVU that I cannot and will not watch. The Rihanna/Chris Brown episode Funny Valentine just makes me too upset and angry. spoiler alert!!!!! The episode where Olivia Benson is tortured. I couldn't even bear to look up the episode name. What they did to her is disgusting. I get panicky and feel hot when that episode comes on t.v. and I switch stations as fast as I can.

A good chunk of Next Generation season 1 episodes. Specifically Naked Now, Code of Honor, Justice and Skin of Evil. Also on Voyager, Threshhold and that episode where Nelix dies and has no afterlife and then Seven resurrects him.

Babylon 5, season 1: Believers, Season 3: Exogenesis, and most of the movies.

Doctor Who: Any Slitheen episode, Tooth and Claw, Love and Monsters, Fear Her, The Next Doctor, Waters of Mars, Night Terrors, Cold War, In the Forest of the Night, Sleep No More.

Justice and Skin of Evil were really awful eps, I agree.

Yup. there are some TNG episodes that are just boring. Those two, though, are just plain awful. I'd add Code of Honor as the third completely awful early episode (Naked Now isn't great, but mostly it is just boring and too much of a Original Trek repeat, only part I hate is the Data and Tasha part). Season 2 was a massive improvement.

Care to elaborate on any of the Doctor Who episodes?

Most of them I just find boring and so don't usually feel like rewatching. Tooth and Claw represents all that I find wrong with series 2 and how Rose and 10 brought out the worst in each other. Sleep No More was just bad. The Slitheen just feel like a bad joke to me, so I never took them seriously enough to suspend my disbelief and engage with the episodes.

Really like Wonderfalls, but I haven't been able to make it through "Karma Chameleon" without having a panic attack. I'm not even 100% sure why it freaks me out so bad, but I can only make it as far as the girl impersonating Jaye taking her place at family game night before I have to "NOPE" out.

Well, I don't know if I've gotten to a point where I can't watch at all, but I have had to skip past awful parts of eps, or just get fucking drunk enough to deal with an episode that was terrible not because of drama, but because the writing was so bad and disrespectful to the characters.

Kind of like That 70s show season 8

Or the last episode of Daria season 4 all the way through to the second movie (to be fair, not ALL the episodes, just the ones centered around you know who).

And I guess now GoT anything after 8.3 hahahahaha fuck

I think I'm a little hesitant to get into anything new at this point. Though I guess only that last one was recent.

I basically don't like any episodes of shows where someone acts wildly OOC for no reason at all. It's so cringe and I just want to slap the writers on the head.

Oh, and like ten years ago... this wasn't a fictional show or anything, but it was either TLC or some other "educational" (quotes deserved) channel featuring a show where people would narrate an illness they had, and the whole thing with the show is if they ended up dead or alive. I forget, and honestly, I don't know why, but at the time, I didn't have a problem with it. But one episode, there was a guy narrating, and at the end he actually died...and was still narrating. That was creepier than anything I'd ever seen (and I am a paranormal activity whore), and I never watched another episode. Not sure that counts though.

This implies I will ever watch GoT again. THANKS SEASON EIGHT.

Yup. With you there. Season 8 ruined the whole show for me. Season 7, in my opinion, wasn't great either. I would have ended the show with Dany heading for Westeros. But it was season 8 that completely destroyed my desire to rewatch the show other than the occasional Dany being awesome or Cersei being awesomely evil clips.

I either headcanon that the show ended after 8.2 (the last actually decent episode) and everyone turned into wights or Ned woke up from his strange dream. I'm not sure which amuses me more.

Some possible good news is GRRM is writing TWoW again so it's possible we'll get some post ADwD content that doesn't suck horribly. I won't hold my breath for ADoS but I can dream (hahah u c wut i did thar).

I absolutely feel the same - not just because of the betrayal of the characters, but all the little details and mysteries that we were excited to see the answer to, that ended up meaning literally nothing. All those theory videos and posts, the games that people made picking out breadcrumbs and speculating on what it might all mean... it meant nothing. Yay.

[personal profile] philstar22 2020-04-21 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. I expect some of the book ending to be the same, but expect it to at least be done better because there will be actual answers and things will mean something. There won't just be these mysteries built up to nothing.

The showrunners stopped caring. They just wanted their show to be over. And it showed.

That TLC show you describe...they did something kinda similar for an episode of that "Obsession: Dark Desires" series on the Investigation Discovery channel once. This woman was talking about how she'd been stalked for over 20 years by the son of a man she used to date.

Come to find out at the end that the woman was actually an actress playing the part of the woman the story was about. The woman who'd been stalked had actually been murdered by said stalker. After the reveal this woman being interviewed was an actress, the show did a fade out and then just showed the empty chair while a voiceover mentioned the real life woman had died. It was a super eerie transition.

The whole time I was watching that episode, I was sitting here going, "This story sounds awfully familiar...". Turns out I'd heard it covered on some "Dateline" episode years prior, and I even remember thinking at one point, "Didn't the woman in that case die?" Sure enough...

Anywho, yeah, that TLC episode sounds equally creepy.

Honestly, for all I know, it might've been Discovery. I haven't had cable TV in a while so I don't quite remember. But that show definitely left an impression on me.

If it was Discovery, double ugh to them for that murder mystery! That's just gross and they should fire whoever is approving shit like that. These are real people, and this is not a soap opera or something featuring the Kardashians.

Can I say all of season 3 of SPN? For some reason, I find that season unbearably boring.

I kind of agree as a whole, but I also think there are some standout scenes and one or two standout episodes.

Pretty much any Section 31-related episode of Deep Space 9.

I don't object to S31's existence, and I think it can be done well (ENT did well with it), but I don't like Sloan, I don't like what that arc did to Bashir, and I thought the 'justifying dirty deeds' thing was done better in In the Pale Moonlight.

Aw, I liked the Section 31 episodes. I hated the novels and how far they took it, though. Piece of advice: don't read Control. You'll really hate what they do to Bashir not to mention to other things.

I'll make sure to give that one wide berth next time the urge to read Trek novels strikes me.

Anytime the "Roseanne" episode where Dan has his heart attack pops up in reruns, I can't watch it. Dan reminds me so much of my own dad as it is, and everything with his heart attack hits way too close to home for me, as my dad went through similar heart problems.

SPOILERS

(Doesn't help that at the end of the original series' run it's revealed that Dan died after all of that. My own dad died ten years ago. So that makes it even tougher.)

SPOILERS FOR BUFFY

[personal profile] chamonix 2020-04-21 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
The Body on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I watched it once and nearly had a breakdown; it was like a dramatisation of all my worst fears. It was even more horrifying because of how normal the situation was in comparison to all the wacky adventures on that show. You know, one day you might just come home and your mother might be dead on the couch. Sucks to be you, but she had a heart condition no one knew about, and that's that.

It was brutal and I'll never put myself through that again.

Re: SPOILERS FOR BUFFY

(Anonymous) 2020-04-21 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
I always skip it too. My mother has had cancer (minor cancer that was not a brain cancer) and has had a ton of long-lasting side effects mostly from the cancer treatments. So I can't watch that episode. It is too much of a believable fear for me, I wouldn't be able to handle it if I watched it and let the fear gain hold.

I'm really sorry about your mother. Mine is in exactly the same situation, and growing up this was basically my worst fear. It just cut way too close to the bone, especially when they rush her to hospital and she's revived and it's all ok... and then you realise that was all a frantic fantasy of Buffy's as she watches the paramedics work on her. I couldn't deal with it. It was too real.

I hope your mother continues her recovery well, and both of you are safe and happy. <3

Me too. I feel sick anytime I'm even reminded of that episode.
