Episodes of Shows That You Like That You Cannot Bear to Watch

(Anonymous) 2020-04-21 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
There are two episodes of Law and Order SVU that I cannot and will not watch. The Rihanna/Chris Brown episode Funny Valentine just makes me too upset and angry. spoiler alert!!!!! The episode where Olivia Benson is tortured. I couldn't even bear to look up the episode name. What they did to her is disgusting. I get panicky and feel hot when that episode comes on t.v. and I switch stations as fast as I can.

A good chunk of Next Generation season 1 episodes. Specifically Naked Now, Code of Honor, Justice and Skin of Evil. Also on Voyager, Threshhold and that episode where Nelix dies and has no afterlife and then Seven resurrects him.

Babylon 5, season 1: Believers, Season 3: Exogenesis, and most of the movies.

Doctor Who: Any Slitheen episode, Tooth and Claw, Love and Monsters, Fear Her, The Next Doctor, Waters of Mars, Night Terrors, Cold War, In the Forest of the Night, Sleep No More.

Really like Wonderfalls, but I haven't been able to make it through "Karma Chameleon" without having a panic attack. I'm not even 100% sure why it freaks me out so bad, but I can only make it as far as the girl impersonating Jaye taking her place at family game night before I have to "NOPE" out.

Well, I don't know if I've gotten to a point where I can't watch at all, but I have had to skip past awful parts of eps, or just get fucking drunk enough to deal with an episode that was terrible not because of drama, but because the writing was so bad and disrespectful to the characters.

Kind of like That 70s show season 8

Or the last episode of Daria season 4 all the way through to the second movie (to be fair, not ALL the episodes, just the ones centered around you know who).

And I guess now GoT anything after 8.3 hahahahaha fuck

I think I'm a little hesitant to get into anything new at this point. Though I guess only that last one was recent.

I basically don't like any episodes of shows where someone acts wildly OOC for no reason at all. It's so cringe and I just want to slap the writers on the head.

Oh, and like ten years ago... this wasn't a fictional show or anything, but it was either TLC or some other "educational" (quotes deserved) channel featuring a show where people would narrate an illness they had, and the whole thing with the show is if they ended up dead or alive. I forget, and honestly, I don't know why, but at the time, I didn't have a problem with it. But one episode, there was a guy narrating, and at the end he actually died...and was still narrating. That was creepier than anything I'd ever seen (and I am a paranormal activity whore), and I never watched another episode. Not sure that counts though.

Can I say all of season 3 of SPN? For some reason, I find that season unbearably boring.

Pretty much any Section 31-related episode of Deep Space 9.

I don't object to S31's existence, and I think it can be done well (ENT did well with it), but I don't like Sloan, I don't like what that arc did to Bashir, and I thought the 'justifying dirty deeds' thing was done better in In the Pale Moonlight.

Anytime the "Roseanne" episode where Dan has his heart attack pops up in reruns, I can't watch it. Dan reminds me so much of my own dad as it is, and everything with his heart attack hits way too close to home for me, as my dad went through similar heart problems.

SPOILERS

(Doesn't help that at the end of the original series' run it's revealed that Dan died after all of that. My own dad died ten years ago. So that makes it even tougher.)

SPOILERS FOR BUFFY

[personal profile] chamonix 2020-04-21 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
The Body on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I watched it once and nearly had a breakdown; it was like a dramatisation of all my worst fears. It was even more horrifying because of how normal the situation was in comparison to all the wacky adventures on that show. You know, one day you might just come home and your mother might be dead on the couch. Sucks to be you, but she had a heart condition no one knew about, and that's that.

It was brutal and I'll never put myself through that again.

What's a good lesbian upbeat romantic song?

Ease My Mind, Pretty Girl, and What I Need by Hayley Kiyoko? It's pop-friendly and lesbian-oriented, but I do think there's an undercurrent of doubt in her stuff (like, "I like her, but does she like me that way?")

I Couldn't Be Your Friend by Teagan and Sara
Girl by Beatrice Eli
Cherry by Rina Sawayama
Who We Are by Allison Weiss
Jenny by The Studio Killers
Fool by Alyson Stoner
Like Heaven by Zolita
She’s So Lovely by The Butchies

Healing after a divorce:

Hard Feelings by Lorde
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6nYF3juDQY

If the divorce was nasty, then maybe Since You’re Gone by The Pretty Reckless.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqBwvKckyAk

And if you’re amenable to Taylor Swift, I’d rec Death By A Thousand Cuts, and Clean.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTEFSuFfgnU

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tii5cv7DzpQ

Growing up in an abusive home:

The Sunset Tree by The Mountain Goats is a concept album about growing up in an abusive home, and it’s incredible - very raw. Specifically I’d rec: Up The Wolves, Dance Music, Hast Thou Considered The Tetrapod, Lion’s Teeth - and Pale Green Things, with is a song about the death of an abusive parent and the grown-up child’s struggle to deal with the very complicated emotions of that death.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6r4CvGorTek&list=PLzAusdgefI0FvG9V2O_Yv5BqTG9NRzOFL

TV Show by Everclear also seems like it’s talking about an abusive home life.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XM-jl76OLTs

I can’t think of any upbeat romantic lesbian songs, though obviously Tegan and Sara are a good place to start. Missy Higgins is another lesbian artist with some good tunes. And of course Melissa Etheridge.

I guess This Moment by Melissa Ethridge is fairly upbeat. And very romantic:

Good hip stretches

(Anonymous) 2020-04-21 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Are there specific stretches that are useful to do to help with hip pain? I've had hip pain for a long time, but it has steadily been getting worse. Pretty sure I'm sleeping funny since it is worst when I wake up.

Late rant

(Anonymous) 2020-04-21 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
As it says, this is kind of late. Feel free if you want to rant too. I just need to get this out.

Please, can I just stop fucking failing at life? Can I be competent at ANYTHING? I'm tired of having nothing to do at work, but when I do have something to do at work, it's all over my head and I'm just too dumb to do the task. Any attempts to educate myself just leave me with my eyes glazing over and me resisting giving a fuck. I don't know why I can't get the fuck over myself and just take in the fucking info and be fucking competent at the very least. I'm lucky to have a job. I don't know why I can't fucking ACT LIKE IT. I'm supposed to be working right now, but here I am, ranting.

Everyone's smarter than me, and they all have so much to do. No one listens to me, and I'm either too dumb or too scared to articulate my own needs. I don't want to say what's frustrating me right now because it's so fucking first world problems it makes me sick. They're the overwhelmed and I'm over here not doing shit. I ask them for something to do, then I'm saddling them with one more task of giving me something to do. When I try jumping on things myself, it feels like I fuck it up worse and leave behind more work than if they had just done it themselves. I hate it.

It just seems like when people aren't pissed off at me, they're too busy ignoring me. I hate that I can't fix this or make it better in any way.

Can I just check I am still on the same internet? TW Rape

[personal profile] thewakokid 2020-04-21 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm arguing with this guy - Surprise sur-fucking-prise, right? - who is of the opinion that rape kink is some out-there strange abnormal fringe kink.

This is on twitter.

And He seems to have a lot of support. Like a LOT of support.

Have I... quantum leaped into a different internet? One where everyone is degrees more vanilla?

Seriously, he's saying that liking FICTIONL rape makes you a danger to women. That he would fight to make sure I am never left alone with a woman.

I asked him if he thought the same of Feet guys, if they shouldn't be left alone with women and he said "No, I wouldn't trust them with women either" which... I mean...

But I'm not out of my mind here, right? Rapekink is INCREDIBLY common, isn't it?
