Good hip stretches

(Anonymous) 2020-04-21 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Are there specific stretches that are useful to do to help with hip pain? I've had hip pain for a long time, but it has steadily been getting worse. Pretty sure I'm sleeping funny since it is worst when I wake up.

How bad is your pain? Because I try to do one of these stretches right before bed each night, but I just have tight hip flexors because I'm out of shape, not due to an injury or anything chronic. I like #1 and #5, but don't strain yourself!

It doesn't feel specifically injured, more like both of them are super tight. And maybe over stretched in a couple areas where I rolled that way in my sleep without the muscle being prepared for it.

If you sleep on your side, try sleeping with a pillow between your knees.

I go to sleep on my stomach (can't sleep on my back due to having apnea when I'm on my back), but I toss and turn a lot in my sleep, and I often wake up on one or other of my sides.

I don't know about hip pain specifically, but this "workout" has helped me with pain in my lower back. (It's not really a workout, just various stretch exercises.)

I recommend her beginners workouts in general to built up the musculature in your back, it helped me a lot with pain issues. And I love the instructor's style.

This isn't a stretch, it's more a compression, and it can hurt like a SON OF A BITCH, but it really helps me with hip pain!

So if you look up a picture of the yoga pose "cradling the baby", you start out with that, but you have the leg you're not holding straight out. Doesn't matter if you can't lift your leg the whole way or get your foot in the crook of your elbow, just do the best you can.

And then, this is the magical "OH FUCKING HELL" part, you roll onto the hip of the you're holding and shift until you find a tender spot. And you rock your weight up and down on it. And if you have hips that are like mine and a tight wreck from too much office work you might cry. But it helps to roll out some tension and knots in weird and awkward places, and if you do it every day you'll get to the point where those tension and knots just aren't there anymore. It's great!
