SPOILERS FOR BUFFY

[personal profile] chamonix 2020-04-21 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
The Body on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I watched it once and nearly had a breakdown; it was like a dramatisation of all my worst fears. It was even more horrifying because of how normal the situation was in comparison to all the wacky adventures on that show. You know, one day you might just come home and your mother might be dead on the couch. Sucks to be you, but she had a heart condition no one knew about, and that's that.

It was brutal and I'll never put myself through that again.

I always skip it too. My mother has had cancer (minor cancer that was not a brain cancer) and has had a ton of long-lasting side effects mostly from the cancer treatments. So I can't watch that episode. It is too much of a believable fear for me, I wouldn't be able to handle it if I watched it and let the fear gain hold.

I'm really sorry about your mother. Mine is in exactly the same situation, and growing up this was basically my worst fear. It just cut way too close to the bone, especially when they rush her to hospital and she's revived and it's all ok... and then you realise that was all a frantic fantasy of Buffy's as she watches the paramedics work on her. I couldn't deal with it. It was too real.

I hope your mother continues her recovery well, and both of you are safe and happy. <3

Me too. I feel sick anytime I'm even reminded of that episode.
