What are the best and worst words for the penis and vagina/vulva? At least to read in smut? I'm all for biological accuracy but those words would take me right out of it.

I remember manhood being really big in fanfiction. Or member.

Cock is always a good one.
Dick is good in some fandoms, but sometimes feels out of place in other fandoms imo.
Erection, usually fine but don't use it as frequently as cock.
Shaft, usually fine but don't use it as frequently as cock.

The rest are, imo, all varying degrees of "probably better not to use" or "oh god WHY?"

As for the vagina...I feel like that's trickier.

IMO, cunt is the female equivalent of cock. But the problem is that for North Americans it can have such a negative connotation that it probably throws a lot of them out of it.
I'd say pussy is the closest to a female equivalent for dick, but mehhh. IDK. It's fine I guess? But I'm really not a big fan of the word, personally. It just sounds vulgar to me, and not in a good way.

Pretty sure when I was reading a lot of het fic, people often tended to skip naming the vagina/labia in such a specific way. I recall a lot of "passage" and "inside her" and "inner walls." Which tended to work fine, as long as you were adding in hot descriptors (tight, clenching, quivering, spasming, aching, empty, etc.) to spice it up a little.

oh wow i had totally forgotten about "quim". i never hear anybody say it irl. i always assumed it was a british thing bc i was introduced to it in harry potter fanfiction when i was younger haha

i'm honestly fond of "pussy" myself. and even tho i know it's a sensitive~ term i don't mind "cunt" either. "vulva" sounds silly to me in like the heat of the moment haha. but i do like "lips" a lot. i like "clit" more than straight up "clitoris" for some reason, or any terms like "hard nub" and "button" and whatnot. just call it a clit! it's the reaction to whatever is happening to it that i really want to know about haha. get to it.

that being said, i think i've grown used to the weird terms that fanfiction uses enough that i can kind of gloss over them as long as the content around them is good.
