Since it is apparently on F!S's brain

Do you read/enjoy real person fanfiction?

Only crack.

I'm not against it but I can't think of a lot of good RPF I've read (except things where I have no familiarity with the people involved and am reading it as basically smut, I guess)

I was really into bandom RPF in college (never wrong any, just read a ton), but I feel weird about it now. :P

I did use to read a ton of bandom back during my emo days, but I remember a lot of it was wildly OOC. There were some good fics that explored the worlds built in a particular band's album, but the vast majority were really smutty and I felt weird reading them after I found out somebody sent Mikey Way some Waycest fic. Who thought that was a good idea?

Not much. The only types I find interesting is complete what-if situations with two real people that don't already have personal interactions.

So like, two members of the same boyband or two actors on the same show who already work together and are around each other all the time? Meh. A member of some boyband, running into someone more distant like a guitarist in a metal band, or an unrelated actor, or a politician or something and you can somehow make the public personalities work together in a ship? That's interesting and I want to know how you do it.

Never could get into it, even as a 12-year-old

I used to think it was gross, because I kept thinking what the real people written about would think about it, but it doesn't bother me anymore.

Nope. Hard nope. I want escape in my fanfiction, just like I do most of the time with my media. I have no problem with other people reading it, though personally it makes me uncomfortable.

NOPE. and I was even going to make a secret but lol now I'd be accused of contributing to a glut of them on the same topic.

basically, having worked in the music industry, what a lot of people call a celebrity's "persona" is not a persona or a character. it's their customer service face. we all have one, they're just forced to use theirs more frequently because they're almost always in the public eye. like, I'm willing to you-do-you for people who straight up admit they're just writing OCs with real people faces and names, but the ones who try to justify their RPF by claiming that they're writing the personas and not the real people, I can't. that's like writing RPF of the grocery clerk who forces herself to smile in the face of Karen instead of ripping her a new one like she really wants to. it's not a persona, it's just being a human being to other human beings.

No, I hate it and people who are into it are disgusting.

Nope, I'm not into celebs in any way, usually don't even know who the actors in a thing I watch are and don't care to find out.

I'm here for the characters and their relationships, not the people who play them. Others can do what they want ofc, but RPF holds no interest for me at all.

Re: Since it is apparently on F!S's brain

(Anonymous) 2020-04-22 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Back when I thought people only wrote RPF as crack, I thought it was fun (I remember reading one on Leonardo DiCaprio and Rihanna doing a heist together forever ago on LJ)

Nowadays? I feel grossed out by the concept alone. I'm usually the kind of person who just stays in my own lane when it comes to things like preferences in fics - but there's a big difference between the most fucked up kink thing happening to a fictional character, and writing an obsessive fic about the real people who are shipped together while harassing them (and their family/friends/SO) on social media. It's disgusting, and even though I know that not all people into RPF are like that - it doesn't change the fact that there's an overwhelming number of people who are like that.

I've read a bit. I read a few short Gillian Anderson/David Duchonvy fics back in the 00s. And one Taylor Swift fic that was really quite good. But that's about it. It's just never grabbed me.

And while I'm generally fine with it, I do get pretty uncomfortable with dark stuff in RPF. I wouldn't harass anyone over it; it just makes me uncomfortable.

I also don't like how common it is for RPFers to talk about their headcanons as if they're reality. Like, they know they're just making shit up, but the way they talk about it does not convey that to anybody observing them.

Nope. Feels weird. Granted, it pales in comparison to actually scheming and manipulating events of people's lives, but I still find it creepy. Just a milder level of creepy.

Re: Since it is apparently on F!S's brain

(Anonymous) 2020-04-23 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
In theory, yes. I'm actually really into an RPF ship right now but they're sort of obscure so there's no fic. I've actually thought about writing some, but always decide not to because I find it too weird. I feel like there are all kinds of interesting stories that could be told, but some of them are pretty dark and like the OP of #6 mentioned, it feels weird to put real people in those sorts of situations. Not to mention making them fall in love with their coworker when there are RL SOs/kids is just...kind of awkward.

So I probably won't be writing any, but if I happen to come across some for the pairing I'm currently into (it's the only RPF ship I've ever had any interest in), I would absolutely read it and would probably enjoy it if the writing is halfway decent.

Yup, but only certain kinds. I don't want to read about actor A and his life in the real world and his wife/kids/etc. etc.

I like RPF where actor A is a cowboy or a superhero or a were-creature or whatever. I'm in it for the pretty (and the story when it's good).

I know someone who was into Hockey RPF. I mean, if you take it out of context, it's fiction about characters based on real people. On the other hand, it's a little bit weird yeah. I've never been interested in it, I prefer fictional characters because they are safe and no one is really being hurt by it. And i don't really care to mix actors with characters, etc. But I'm kinda ambivalent other than that. There's a difference between making fiction and like, stalking or obsessing about a real person 24/7.
