I agree. I suspect that a lot of fic writers aren't interested in doing a ton of research and just want to get to the character interaction part, with the historical/factual aspect being window dressing at best. But I wish more writers would take the time to get the basic details right, or find a way around them so that they aren't including glaring errorrs.

Yes, you're probably right. I mean, I'm guilty myself of just wanting to get to the character interaction sometimes when writing, but that generally means I use canon/canon-similar situations or something I'm familiar with as backdrop.

I wish more writers would take the time, too. I shouldn't be left staring at my screen in disbelief, thinking that's not how anatomy/biology/physics/geography/etc. works, when reading a fic.

Yes. If writers want to get to that part, I'd prefer it if they wrote the fic in such a way that doesn't linger on all the non-interaction parts that end up being poorly researched or obviously fudged.
