Would you argue that people who aren't into fanfiction could say the same about that? It's "a level of crazy" just because they see the worst of examples?
Newsflash, the majority of people who ship RPF sure as hell do know the difference between fantasy and reality. The word you're looking for is 'tinhatter'.

Right? This weirdo assumption that anyone that writes RPF is 100 percent digging into people's trash for stuff and running around after them at cons waving copies of their erotic fic and etc. is just....wth.

That's how a lot of non-fandom sees fandom as a *whole*, and most people would find that pretty fucking insulting.
