Yup. I'd really rather it be tweaked a bit so I can actually enjoy a story, not sit there being depressed by the characters I love getting nothing but hate and living in fear.

There's no reason for that to happen, people in the past had happy lives despite their society's homophobia.

EXACTLY. Lots of people lived fairly good lives, considering, all eras, but unfortunately, fandom seems to always latch onto the worst possible thing (for h/c? for angst? who knows).

And while the struggle of being LGBTQ in any era is a real story, and one that needs told, it's *not* one i want to read over and over and over again.
