Re: Question for the Dany critics

The Germans deserved it more.

What does that even mean? Deserved to be destroyed by an atomic bomb?

Re: Question for the Dany critics

(Anonymous) 2020-04-23 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Dresden wasn’t bombed with an a-bomb

Re: Question for the Dany critics

(Anonymous) 2020-04-23 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
No shit. I said that a better analogy to what Dany did would be the atomic bombs being dropped on Japan.

Some rando said "Germans deserved it more". Deserved WHAT more? I was talking about the atomic bomb so I can only assume that.

You brought up Japan as a comparison after Daenerys’s attack was compared to the bombings of Dresden (which the writers actually admitted was their inspiration).

Yes. I was arguing that the atomic bombs are a better comparison. I don't give a shit what the writers say. They are morons.

Dany basically nuked a whole city AFTER she had won the battle. There was no reason for her to do it. The same goes for the atomic bombs. The allied victory over Japan was a certainty. There were no good reasons to destroy it. The amount of deaths were even similar (25,000 in Dresden, 200,000+ in Japan, and around 300,000 in King's Landing).

If Anne Frank bombed Nazi Germany after they surrendered, I wouldn’t blame her either

Re: Question for the Dany critics

(Anonymous) 2020-04-24 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Except Anne Frank wouldn't because she wasn't a monster like Dany. :D

The comparison doesn't hold up either because the people of Westeros didn't personally persecute and oppress Dany. Anyone who wanted her dead for being a Targaryen were dead themselves long before she invaded Westeros. She's the aggressor, not the victim lashing out at people who hurt her.

Cersei had just killed Rhaegal and Missandei.

Gregor, who bashed baby Aegon against a wall before raping his mother, was also still around.

Re: Question for the Dany critics

LOL, and if Dany had given one solitary fuck about Elia and her kids, I could buy that as a reason for vengeance. But she never did, never even mentioned them once, so nah. (And in the books, she even thinks of Elia with vague contempt, but that's admittedly not revelant here.) And she was already planning to firebomb Cersei as soon as she landed in Westeros, way before Rhaegal and Missandei's deaths. And even all that is irrelevant to the point upthread, which is that the people of King's Landing didn't persecute Daenerys, and she killed them anyway.

What the fuck? German children deserved it? No one should have been atomic bombed. I really hope you never end up in charge of anything.

And the original comparison was the bombing of Dresden, nothing about a-bombs

Okay, the comment appeared to be in response to the A-bomb comment. Still a horrible, horrible comment. Children do not deserve to be murdered by adults, ever. Fuck anyone who thinks so. Yes, these children were spouting horrific racist things taught to them by their parents. They don't know any better. Doesn't give adult soldiers the right to murder them. Ever. Objectively wrong. Anyone who thinks they do is not someone I want to ever meet.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

You know that many of those kids really had no grasp of what they were doing?

Also that there were many children who had no idea what was going on? Can you tell me what the babies and toddlers did that was so mean?

But this is how human morality must be! No one is innocent! No one!

Not sure if you are being serious or not. But yes, children are innocent. Certainly at a level where adults don't ever have the right to murder them.

And frankly, you want to be the "good guys," you don't do things like this. If everyone acts the same and the only difference is which side you are on, what's the point? Why are we even fighting?

WWII is one of the few wars that needed to be fought. There was a clear right and wrong side, unlike most wars. But the good side did a whole lot of really awful things, and we shouldn't look back on those moments in history with pride. We should learn from them and try not to repeat them.

I was being sarcastic. It's... disturbing how some of these people think. There's too much fanaticism these days.

Good posts about WWII. I like reading your posts.

I can only assume this Dany fan must be ultra Christian. The kind that thinks babies deserve to die for the sins of their parents. And who gets wet when she reads about the war crimes the Red Army committed against Germany as the moved towards Berlin.

no, the Christians were the ones persecuting the Jews.
