The fandom did it to itself. They got OMG canon!slash and then decided it had to be twoo-wuv, in spite of how insanely OOC that interpration was. Which meant the minute anyone else got a smidge of attention from Mr. Omnisexual, they became a target.

Undrink the Kool-ade and life will be beautiful again. Especially when you start ignoring the crap fics for the crap pairing.

You'd be surprised how many Jack/Ianto fans don't believe it's true love. Depth of emotion, though? Hell yes. Otherwise he'd be off with the Doctor.

Jack/Gwen shippers who go on about them being soulmates are just as bad, in any case. Jack has lots of love for everyone. He just shows it in different ways. And he isn't out to break up anyone else's party for his own fun and games, he's too caring for that these days.

The sooner fandom as a whole realises that, the better. I just think it isn't going to happen on my watch.

I agree with some of this but disagree with ANY implication that Jack's "depth of emotion" for Ianto is stronger than for Gwen. I'll go with COMPLETELY EQUIVALENT as per the obvious J/I/G in Exit Wounds and The Stolen Earth.

And he isn't out to break up anyone else's party for his own fun and games, he's too caring for that these days.

No sarcasm. Jack cares. If he didn't, he would be betraying everything the Doctor taught him. If he didn't get emotionally involved he wouldn't cry as much as we've seen him. He wouldn't be fighting for everything he fights for. All those times he told Gwen to keep hold of her life, he meant it, because he cares about her - and yeah, sure, dead equal as he does for Ianto. And it's a lot. He's had way too many opportunities to run out on them if he wasn't bothered.

Kind of like the way he ran out on them the minute he had the code to do so and knew he could get back to the person one person in the universe he really cares about.

But I'm happy to hear you're on board with exact emotional and sexual equivalence in Jack's feelings toward G and I.

You mean how he went to help save the world while leaving them in what he expected to be a safe environment? And then returning, despite having the chance to leave for good with 'the one person in the universe he really cares about'? (Which I can't believe. It's Jack. He doesn't focus on one person to the point of excluding all other possibilities. Not even the Doctor.) Just like he returned the time before that, and the time before that...

And exact emotional equivalence, yes. Jack loves his people each as much as the other. And I don't deny he's interested in Gwen sexually - he's Jack, he's interested in everything sexually. But he still chooses to be with Ianto and encourage her to be with Rhys. He's grown up enough to control himself for everyone's sakes. That doesn't mean he cares about either of them more than the other, which seems to be the main bone of contention between Jack/Ianto and Jack/Gwen shippers. It just means he won't ever make a move to split up Gwen and Rhys, and he'll do his best to keep Ianto happy too. Everybody wins. At least in the show. Certain fans may kick up a fuss.

My bottom line for believing in shipper sanity is the "exact equivalence" barometer, so we're good.
