You know how cringey it is when people use Japanese honorifics or random Japanese terms in anime fanfic that's otherwise written completely in English?

Yeah, I ate that shit UP when I first started reading fanfic, especially in the DBZ circles.

Honorifics aren't cringey as long as they match what the characters actually call each other in canon.

I, uh, used to do that.

I prefer the use of honorifics (Japanese honorifics in fanfic for Japanese media, that is) because so often the English equivalent is clunky or awkward or just doesn't have the same feeling. Students going around addressing one another as "upperclassman" because the writer is too scared to say "sempai"... Ugh, no thank you!

I think it depends on how it's done. Like if there's a word that makes more sense or is iconic to the character or series, then I appreciate it when people put it in. Although there is definitely a limit to the use of honorifics and it can become horribly cheesy if it's over used.
