(Anonymous) 2020-04-29 12:10 am (UTC)(link)Also, let's be real, you're never finishing that fic yourself. You've run out of ideas or interest for this fic, which is fine, but I think you're upset because you're trying to convince yourself it's not true.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-29 01:03 am (UTC)(link)I'm glad you said this, because it was exactly what I thought, too. OP's issue here sounds like a "their ego" problem. It bothers them that they didn't finish their work, and therefore the thought of someone else finishing it rankles.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-29 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)Now, it's also perfectly reasonable for someone else to want to write their own ending. We're all writing fanfiction, after all, it's part of what we do!
To me, there's a big difference between a fanfic-based-on-a-fanfic, and asking someone if you can finish their story. If someone wrote their own ending and said 'this was inspired by X fic, this is the idea I had based on their scenario' it would feel less presumptuous.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-29 01:54 am (UTC)(link)I'm still working on a fic I first started in 2007. I update it maaaaybe once a year. It doesn't mean I'm not working on it and I'd be annoyed af if someone assumed I a) had abandoned it or b) wasn't going to finish it.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-29 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)I used to post WIPs (one at a time) and had a very regular update schedule. Even really long stories got finished in a reasonable amount of time. I should have learned my lesson with the last one I completed, which took fucking forever. But I stupidly started a new one and it hasn't been updated in over a year. I've just gotten into some new hobbies and am no longer active in fandom. But I feel really guilty about that last WIP and keep hoping that I will manage to finish it.
