Or maybe it's a fine pairing, and some people aren't that great at writing pairings or keeping characterization consistent.

Personally I think it's because every other 3D+CG anime is terrible, lol. 3D models with anime style almost always looks wrong, so even though the art style for this isn't completely traditional either, it's more along that vein and managed to blend with 2D art well enough that it's not as obvious as other series's which parts are converted from 3D and which are not. Still obvious, but not as much.

Also Diamond's single-cut fight scene near the end was impressive to me. Scenes like that almost don't exist in 2D animation so that scene alone made me think...hmm, okay, even if it's not perfected yet, maybe there's a reason studios should keep working on 3D+CG technology, if it means more fight scenes like this.

Not gonna lie, op...that's a little bit funny to me because stuff like that was so common when I first got into fandom (not this one) and I wondered if it was still common or if people were sick of Mary Sue OFCs.

It feels like a silly backlash, tbh. The kind of thing when people blur the lines between shipping and activism. I see it on tumblr from people who are old enough to know better. You're bi and you feel underrepresented and discrimated against? Fair enough. You're going to stamp your feet and call all cishets boring or basic? LOL.

Ha, you should try an entire genre spun out in denial of what the character did. I'm looking at you, Lemon Chicken fic in SGA. Poor Rodney! How dare anyone hold him accountable for a split second? Why aren't they hugging him for how awful it must have been, letting his ego get away from him like that?
