It's weird - reading these, I get the impression Palmer is doing her best to stir up shit and get attention/hugs/people on her side, and Gaimen is like 'yeah, this is happening, it's private, please respect that', like - wtf, why did she drag our kid into this.

I have *zero* knowledge of their relationship and frankly don't care, but i don't get a 'dirty old man' vibe from this at all....

(Anonymous) 2020-05-12 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Same. Also, she's 44? So... hardly a delicate ingenue being taken advantage of, or something...

Yeah, it's all a little weird. I mean - clearly they're kinda oddball people with zero fucking boundaries, but that doesn't mean they're like...horrible or anything. (Though she seems a little horrible. That suicide 'prank' was gross.)

(Anonymous) 2020-05-12 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, absolutely - they are definitely both very weird, and weird in a very public way that tends to feel artificial and performative and so forth, so it irritates people, but like... I don't actually have to pay them any attention if I don't want to? So they write stupid poetry and do "performance art" and shit - apart from the suicide 'prank' (that Palmer describes as performance art), none of it actually effects other people in any meaningful way.
Just let them sit there and be weird. Who gives a fuck.

Exactly.

I mean, if you follow people they follow and you see stuff, well, there it is, but they're pretty easy to ignore. Other than the post here and the rundown of stuff at ONTD, I honestly had not seen anything about them anywhere, and hadn't heard of any of the stuff they've done other than the 'Siamese twin band' thing?

And that was only because it was mentioned here.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-12 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
oh god I'm almost terrified to ask about the suicide prank.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-12 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
One of the other comments above links to an ONTD post with lots of weird (often really judgmental) stuff about Gaiman and Palmer, and one bit about her tricking a drug addict boyfriend into thinking she'd killed herself. More into there, but I think that's all you really want to know tbh.

Yike D: unfortunately my broadband provider has blocked ontd for some reason so I can't access it - but yeah still yikes.

There's a link in the ONTD post that someone linked in this thread.

Apparently she dated a guy who was an addict and pretended to kill herself so he could 'find' her body to show him how harmful his behavior was? IDK and i...really don't want to.

She also secretly recorded his reaction and then used it in one of her songs.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-13 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. Just layers of ew.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-12 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm honestly getting pretty disgusted with her at this point. She seems to be trying to turn the entire thing into a huge spectacle to get asspats, whereas he seems to want to keep it private out of respect for both of them and their kid.

Yeah. Blech.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-12 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Seconding your entire comment. I knew little about Palmer before today, but the way she comes off in her tweets etc is really off-putting to me. Her need for drama and attention seems volatile and a bit out of control. Especially in contrast to Gaimen, who honestly seems like his biggest damage is being the kind of person who would think it was a good idea to marry someone because "being with them would never be boring."

Yeah. Not saying he doesn't have a bit of that, himself, because he's gone along and done some odd, public stuff, but she seems to kind of need validation for being 'the good one' or something, I dunno.....

Meh. Another reason why i rarely if ever follow 'celebrity' social media or look too deeply into their stuff.

He should have learned from his good friend Pterry that "May you live in interesting times" is actually a curse.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-12 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean they both have a bad case of wanting to be characters in a Tim Burton movie in real life, but they're also both relatively harmless. Like, I can see getting this excited about a marriage breaking up if, say, Melania threw over Donald because she was having a torrid affair with Vicente Fox, but the amount of glee that some people are getting out of this B-list celebrity breakup seems excessive. Quarantine cabin fever has people desperate for drama, I guess.

HA.
Yes.

Well, the hatred for Palmer is pretty virulent in some quarters, I've noticed, and she *does* seem to do some fairly weird and rather fucked-up stuff, but when it all comes down to it....
Yeah. B-list celebrities doing what people do.

Eh.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-12 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Even Palmer's weird and fucked up shit tends is mostly along the lines of distasteful/offensive, but not causing lasting harm. She's like a self-aware Kardashian.
