I'd say it depends on the reasons you didn't have those experiences and what you had instead. For someone growing up in a hyper religious community or cult, it's not so much the "missing out on the pop tripe" but more the "having to endure indoctrination and religious tripe" part that can be an issue. And it's also a difference if you don't have the same experience as others because you're not interested in it or if you're not allowed to.
