Uhh no?? Korrasami do have build up and that standing face to face is the best getting together that they could get away with. For all intents and purposes the development of their intentionally romantic relationship is there. It's subtle as fuck but welcome to the world, we're a homophobic bunch in here, I hope you enjoy your stay. And. Please don't no homo them. It's not like we actually have better rep options as of yet.

& don't compare that to JK's "btw he gay" afterthought which she low-key backpedaled from

“ & don't compare that to JK's "btw he gay" afterthought which she low-key backpedaled from”

So it’s okay for Korra to be subtle, but not for a children’s book series that finished in 2007?

(Anonymous) 2020-05-14 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
They are not equally subtle. Compared to Dumbledore, Korrasami is an anvil.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-14 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Dumbledore and Grindelwald’s relationship was still an important part of the last book. It’s not like Rowling just made it up afterwards.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-14 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not disagreeing, I'm just saying I don't think they're not really comparable in how they're depicted.

If Dumbledore had been subtly gay, that would be great! Problem is, he's not. She had the idea after the book was written and it shows.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-14 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It was there in the last book with his relationship with Grindelwald.

There was nothing to imply a romantic subtext. It was played by every rule of bromance, no homo passing to the extreme. If JK wanted to imply something in her writing, she would have. But she didn't, because she's homophobic. She said "he gay" after the fact because she wants SJ cookies. It's clear as day.

Not to mention how she swings back and forth between "it was a one sided crush" to "they were fuckin every day" She obviously made the whole thing up after the book was done and can't commit to a version

(Anonymous) 2020-05-14 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
For someone so defensive over Korra only being gay in the last frame, you sure know a lot about what Rowling really meant.

Somebody asked her at a fan event if Dumbledore had been in love, she answered that he had been in love with Grindelwald. She wasn’t doing it for brownie points, especially considering the social climate back then wasn’t as accepting. she also previously stopped Yates from having Dumbledore talk about a crush he once had on a girl, so it was clearly something she knew beforehand.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-14 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you really think that when you read it, or did you just retcon that into your own understanding of the book when Jk said "btw guys it's gay"?

(Anonymous) 2020-05-14 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you think Renly and Loras were straight too until Grrm said they weren’t?

Nope, me and tons of other fans saw it before she said anything.

Hey, someone remind me, when did Crimes of Grindelwald - the least bit of Harry Potter canon that Dumbledore appeared in - come out? Oh wait, I'm on the internet, I can look that up myself.

2018

I also think that JKR - being a literal billionaire - has more say in what gets included in a story than people making a show for Nickolodeon do but what do I know

Irrelevant to fiction. You think no gay lit or gay-friendly lit appeared in that period? Boy have I a surprise for you.

/if you are British - I seriously doubt it.

So Nickelodeon forced them to give both Korra and Asami male love interests?

It's hilarious because I can name a dozen canon het ships that don't ever kiss or have outright declarations of love either, and no one ever argues that THOSE ships aren't canon.
