I forgot to say that even with the mentally ill, it's their responsibility to manage their illness, or at least help to manage their illness. That includes taking meds to function better.

If you had the flu (or let's just say the coronavirus), it's your responsibility to rest up, eat healthy, and take your medication and do other things to speed up the healing process. If it gets worse, you go to the hospital. You don't run around in public, practicing your vices and making your health worse, or getting others sick, or hacking on the one person who'll put up with your germs.
