I've never seen the film myself but there's a huuuuuuuuuuge cross section of my mutuals on twitter who seem to feel the exact same way you do so your people are out there

Until I read the comment responding to this, I thought it was too...

(Anonymous) 2020-05-17 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember it, OP :)

My neighbor adored that movie!! I liked it alright, too, actually. I only ever saw it at her house... good times!

(Anonymous) 2020-05-17 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh, never knew that movie existed. Kind of an unfortunate title these days.

I may check it out if I come across it though.

If they’re nostalgic for The Goonies then they’re at least ten years too old to have ever heard of this, some maybe even closer to 15.

There was this thing called "video" and you could "rent" a "video cassette" and watch it at home. It was pretty common to be a fan of movies made even ten or fifteen years earlier!

Are those really the people nostalgic for The Goonies though? Everyone I see is over 40 and the ones who would have known this in childhood would be maybe late 20s or early 30s, which is different stage of life as well as a significant generation gap when you compare their childhoods.

NAYRT

I was born 2 years before Goonies was released. I have nostalgia for both Goonies and to a lesser extent this movie. I watched Goonies a lot as a kid on VHS, and I remember enjoying Gold Diggers, but it wasn't as popular.

While these movies came out 10 years apart, the popularity of VHS rentals and cable TV meant kids watched Goonies long after it was released. The adventure style of both films would appeal to the same kids.

This secret brought back memories I'd forgotten about! I remember the previews for that movie on TV and wanting to see it, but I wasn't able to until it came out on video. I barely remember anything about the movie itself, but I know I liked it. Now I want to find it again.

I remember watching this movie on TV!!! This brings back memories!

I don't know if I every saw the Goonies, or if I just mix this up with the young vampires and Sandlot. I feel like these and Lucas all merged into one movie. Which is the one with the deformed? or mutated kid/man in the attic?

Anyway, this was a good movie, at least at the time.

Shout out to Hollywood Video -- cheaper than Blockbuster!

I remember this! I saw the film's trailer in theaters and when commercials ran for it, my brother laughed about how a film with teen actresses would be titled Gold Diggers.

i remember really wanting to see it (christina ricci was my hero back in the day) but for whatever reason it never happened.

(christina ricci was my hero back in the day)

I liked her, too :). I haven't seen this movie, but I thought she was so cool in Casper and wanted to be like her.
