lol you think a multi-million dollar net worth actor or actress needs to worry about paying rent?

it's pathetic cowardice at this point, if more larger performers said "you know what, this script has a scene where i sit down on a chair and break it because my character is so fat" and then refused to perform until that bit was rewritten or taken out, i'm sure the studio (who are relying on hit actors like this) would acquiesce

I'm sure Rebel Wilson can now have some creative control over what she accepts, but I'm willing to bet it's less control than a thin actress would have, and it must have taken her a lot of roles to get there. With South Asian actors, they often don't get any roles in North American film or TV unless they do The Accent, so by the time they're known enough to be rich, they've had to perform a bunch of stereotypical shit.

I've been watching a friend of mine pay his dues for years. When he's able to write, direct, or even choose his own projects, he's got range and talent, but he pays bills by being the funny fat guy in commercials. It's a bit more dignified because he's a dude, but I'm pretty sure if he tried to protest something fatphobic, they'd just drop him and find someone else who would do it.

yeah i know money runs out, i'm just saying if you're a big enough celebrity you could probably say "hey i'm not doing this" and take a stand.

i'm aware doing this could result in a lack of gigs and therefore a lack of money, but a celebrity that popular isn't just going to lose all their opportunities just because they told a studio to amend their script so there's no shitty fatphobic humour. there's always going to be tv shows, advertisements, promotions, etc.
