What's that rule that's like, '90% of everything is crap'? Well, now you're seeing what happens when a small fandom gets big very quickly - you find yourself awash in bad fanart and fanfic, and you have to learn how to filter really well... or just step away from that fandom until it calms down and you have more of a chance of avoiding the output you want to avoid.
