my understanding is that the experience of getting to mentally regress to a younger age and then consciously create a situation in which one feels safe and loved and cared for by the mentally older party can be a coping technique for childhood abuse survivors.

people in your fandom might have learned about it even existing from one author and then realize it's something they'd be interested in exploring too. but when it feels kinda vulnerable and scary to approach someone w the idea, fic is a safer playing ground.

tho i think for others def can be more about nostalgia aesthetic and being spoiled. which i can understand haha. you do you~ however that happens for ya

Fic is a great way to work through some things, no doubt.
Getting spoiled is great, haha.
I feel like I almost get Age Play, but I can never finish the fics. Thanks for the perspective. I'm a little less confused after this thread.
