Silly purchaces...

(Anonymous) 2020-05-19 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Like many people stuck at home, I've turned a bit more to online shopping than I usually do. Thought, heck, never used etsy before, why not support some people and their craftiness while they're also stuck crafting? (Supporting artists directly makes me feel a taaaaaaaaaaad less guilty about buying non-essnetials) This means my poor unsuspecting friends will recieve some very bizarre gifts in the near future. Like tiny knit figurines of their favourite characters, a lovely cushion featuring profane embroidery, a print of a bizarre tiger/unicorn hybrid...

What ridiculous things are the rest of you guilty of treating yourself/others to?

I haven't done it yet but I'm really tempted to buy myself this mug:

Georgia's Pride celebrations are in October and Lord knows they will probably get pushed back but I already bought an outfit I am excited to wear. Here's the link:

Before the shutdown kicked in, my uncle travelled more than anyone else I’ve ever met. He sent me fancy soap from a French parfumerie after he came back from the south of France after the new year (also flower and veggie seeds and good cheese, which are what I’d asked him for and are more usually my thing than fancy soap.)

I just found their website. www.molinard.com

I want to order more soap because I have been washing my hands like a raccoon lately, and theirs is some of the least drying soap I’ve ever used and it smells awesome. My French absolutely sucks, but it looks like there may be customs forms involved and possibly super heavy shipping charges, since they aren’t (I think? Idk) set up to ship to the US. Anyone know more French than me? (which wouldn’t be hard) They don’t seem to have a US website. I don’t ever wear perfume, and spending actual money on a) soap and b) French soap and c) paying customs charges for soap seems silly, but I like not having to slather on lotion every time I wash my hands; I was going through lotion at a ridiculous rate before switching to the fancy soap.

I may also order native flower seeds, even though I’d have to wait until fall to plant most of them. A lot of people are buying veggie seeds and starting gardens for the first time, but I have enough of a stockpile of seeds of edible plants that I don’t need more. I’ll wait until this winter to restock those.

And I might drop an entire paycheck on soil for the yard; idk if that’s silly or not. The base soil in my yard is clay, and it eats whatever amendments I throw at it. Maybe if I started ordering cubic yards of composted manure I could get through a growing season without the soil reverting to clay before harvest.

Looks like they have an English version of their site, but it wasn't much help on whether or not they ship internationally. Maybe you can shoot them an email and see what they say? I hope you can get your soap!

Have you ever gone to soaptipia.com to buy fancy soap? They're based in Cali and I love the scents and their soaps are so colorful and creative.

SA I typed the site incorrectly!

Those soaps seem delightful and the price is really not bad. I emailed to ask if they ship to the US, so who knows! I might be joining you in ordering fancy French soap. :D

What kind did you get? Were the scents really *perfumy*, or more just - the scent? Like, if you got lemon, did it smell like lemon, or like perfume with a little lemon overlay?

For whatever reason this year the ants have decided that my yard is their utopia. I usually try to leave non-harmful bugs alone as long as they're outside, but it's actually getting ridiculous.

I've bought a lot of dolls. I got some Lottie dolls for cheap in a lot and I got a Kurhn doll from a Mercari seller. I also bought two A Girl For All Time dolls. They're so pretty!

I just bought a pair of fancy heels that might not even fit (shoe shopping online is a bit of a gamble). It's not like I have anywhere I can go in them!

I bought this downright adorable stuffed dragon: https://www.jellycat.com/dexter-dragon-dex2dd2/

And it is the softest, most cuddly stuffed animal I have ever bought. It's silly because they also aren't exactly cheap. As in, $50 from a US based website that sells Jellycat plushies. At least I supported a small online toy store in the process!

D’aww, how cute! I have a stuffed dragon collection and while I’ve never spent $50 on one, I have spent a couple hundred on dragon puppets from these guys back when I had more money and also cons weren’t verboten, so I can’t throw any stones. And yours looks way nicer to cuddle.

If I ever won the lotto (which would require buying a ticket, oops) I would probably get this guy:

I just bought a $300 ring off Etsy, lmao. It's vintage from the 1920s, and I'd had my eye on it for a few months now even though I'm not usually a ring-wearer. I got it yesterday, and it fits perfectly, so I wear it around my apartment/when I go grocery shopping to get my money's worth.

Not things I've bought (yet), but things I really, really want to buy:

I want so much jewelry from Missoma. God that brand knows how to make nice pieces. But it's on the high-side of what's affordable to me.

https://uk.missoma.com/collections/necklaces/products/lucy-williams-gold-roman-arc-coin-necklace

I also want a bottle of Oud Wood perfume by Tom Ford, but wholly crap it's expensive, and I can't find it for cheaper than story price anywhere. I'm thinking about buying it anyway, but I really shouldn't. It's such a poor use of money.

i bought several movie artbooks, ("The Art of Frozen", "The Art of httyd"), some games for the nintendo switch (mostly as digital dl, so theres always full price) and some new fancy household items which i usually would not have bought but they i needed a replacement anyway so i went for the fancy version instead of the bare bones one.

I bought a cheap double feature of Jupiter Ascending and Cloud Atlas ($4 for two movies?!?!?! I really love JA and I need to rewatch CA so...), and I'm thinking of
1. buying green contact lenses
2. buying a bunch of fake (septum/helix) piercings.
But I should also just save my money and not buy these things.
