I have a cousin who used to scream his head off or run away at the mere mention of the word "Chucky". If he sees an image of the doll he becomes inconsolable for quite some time. He's otherwise a fairly normal behaving kid, so you weren't the only kid that was extra terrified of this movie.

To make matters worse both his parents thought it was funny so they would either repeat the name Chucky or ask him if he watches the movie 'jokingly', so his fear lasted unnecessarily long from the encouraged behavior.

I've seen kids playing with actual Chucky dolls.

Those parents sound horrible! Who does that to their kid!
