Yes, bad dialogue is frustrating. But when it is good, it elevates the heat level. Then again, I avoid OOC fics and can usually tell pretty quickly if a fic is OOC before it even gets to the sex.

In a lot of cases what counts as OOC in sex scenes is really open to loose interpretation for me. After all if canon never deals with a character's sexuality how are we to know? People can act VERY DIFFERENT in the bedroom than at any other time. That said, yeah, I can usually tell pretty soon if someone is writing a character in a way I don't vibe with and that goes double for dialogue. I think getting dialogue in character is probably one of the most difficult things TBH and is the first indicator to me whoever writing doesn't have a good grasp on them (or just doesn't care or has a wildly different interpretation of them).

OH yes, there is totally a range and room for interpretation. That being said, I most often am reading fics in the Tolkien fandom. If there is dialogue in a Tolkien fic like "gonna make you cum," I think it is pretty safe to call that out of character.

That just gave me some...bad mental images. I need a moment...
