Re: ****MAJOR SPOILERS AND WARNING FOR DISCUSSION OF DUB/NON-CON****

I don't think anyone ITT is glorifying censorship or saying the drama is better, just that they liked it better personally and that the novel isn't some people's cup of tea.

I guess. I'm probably reacting to this more because I've lately seen too much of the whole anti-brigade who hates on the author basically saying that the censorship in The Untamed is a good thing because the book is evil fujoshi shit. And I'm tired of how a few extras and one single scene in the book proper gets used as a way to discredit the otherwise very solid plot of this novel. The way some people behave in this fandom has made me back away from it quite a bit lately.

Oh, YIKES. I haven't gone deep enough into the fandom to see any of that, but yiiiikes, that would make anyone touchy, for sure. Sorry you've had to deal with that.

Yeah, for a BL novel fandom, the amount of people throwing holier-than-thou anti-fujoshi purity tantrums is pretty ridiculous. But it's okay, I'm just a bit touchy about it, it's not the fault of anyone ITT. That's mostly fairly reasonable criticism even if I don't agree with all of it.

nayrt - In this thread, nobody is doing that. Ayrt has baggage from other parts of the fandom and is bringing it here.

Idk, telling people the novel is sooo bad just because of a few extras and some cringey smut kinda sounds a lot like trying to convince people the drama is better, not just "I like it better".

DA whereas telling people the drama is suuuper dumbed down and spoonfed is a great argument.

Did you miss the part where that was a reply to someone going on about how contrived and what an asspull that development in the novel was or...?

I mentioned that I thought the drama "feels less out of the blue". Apparently that extremely mild critique of that specific plot twist is so over the top for you that you're made a mountain out of a molehill.

Yeah, the same way some silly smut makes you go OTT about OMG RAPE even though it really isn't that bad at all.

"it felt like someone pulling an explanation out of their ass" direct quote from this thread. I can't know if that was you or someone else, but it was said, sorry to burst your bubble that everyone must know which anon ist which.

Re: ****MAJOR SPOILERS AND WARNING FOR DISCUSSION OF DUB/NON-CON****

Also, never did I ever say the whole drama is dumed down. That scene though? Is. There is no room for speculation or theories, what happens is spelled out, with added helpful pictures in case even the most inattentive watcher missed the already obvious hints in the dialogue and acting. That is dumbing it down. They could have easily made it a bit more subtle, but they didn't. And I do like quite a bit of the directing and acting on this drama, but this very much wasn't part of it.

It sounds that way because of the emotional baggage you're carrying to this debate. If you left that behind, you'd see that I'm not actually saying it's ONLY the extras and cringey smut that makes me hesitant to rec the novel. I'm not a fan of the writing as a whole. The extras and hilariously awful smut is simply one of the more egregious examples. Yet despite all this, I said I mentioned the novel with that caveat to people who loved the drama. At least one person appreciated that.

Perhaps if you didn't have all the negative associations of other debates you've read elsewhere involving other people, you wouldn't feel so defensive that some people here like the drama better than the novel. It' sjust personal preferences, not not a personal attack.
