To post or not to post?

I agree with you in theory, but these days I find myself worrying that if I post the wrong kink or content that it will ruin my life.

Long fic (~50,000 words) old style canon based hurt/comfort. Normally I wouldn't be dragging my heels on this one but:

1) it has bad things happening to characters
2) the pairing is incest but one of them is from an alternative universe where they're not related
3) there's comfort but no fluff
4) it used to be a kids show and there was a purge of slashers (not just incest pairings) a few years ago

If you like it and it's finished, go on and post it! Tag accordingly and turn comments off/monitor them if you think people will be assholes.

Colour me intrigued. Can I ask the fandom/pairing?

Yeah.

I want to post because I! MUST! MAKE! MY! OPINION! KNOWN! TO THE WORLD!!!!

And I don't want to post because that's a lame reason to want to post (and no1curr anyway), and now I'm posting so much that people are tracing my username to other shit, and I don't enjoy being tracked like that.

But I definitely don't want to give the impression that I'm okay with bad shit or that I represent something that I definitely don't. Frustrating.

Posting anything at all at [community profile] scans_daily, honestly. Somebody made too many posts involving rape, there's been a public call-out on that, a couple of people disagreed with the idea of calling out posters like this; everybody has stayed very civil about the whole issue, we're not talking fandom wank but... boy does seeing this unravel make me uneasy.

Should I send submissions to a Whatever's-Trendy-Now-Character-of-the-Day blog that might get rejected because of the owner's anti tendencies or abstain out of fear of getting the whole series banned?

Very introspective fic that has no real plot, it's just a character having thoughts because the canon doesn't explain their thought process or why they made certain choices.

Idk if people want to read that. Nothing really happens.

There's an audience for everything.

I'm stunned a lot of my stream-of-consciousness fics got any reviews at all, but they did.

There's an audience for everything and I'm part of the audience that really enjoys those types of fics. What fandom is it?

Depending on the character, and how deep you go with it, I would absolutely love everything about what you're offering here. A lot of people would, I assure you, so long as you add the proper tags, like "character study" for instance, to allow your readers to know what they're reading, I'm sure plenty of people will flock to see your perspective. Some other helpful tags would be, if lets say your character's name is "Gary", so long as you add 'Gary-centric' and "introspective" as tags as well, I'm sure readers would love the opportunity to read more about the character.

I've been having this trouble because what I write about is really cringe or at least I'm aware other people think so but I enjoy doing it and that type of content brings me comfort. I'm just afraid of what other people think even though I'm anon online and no one really cares about it really. I also feel guilty in the sense I could be dedicating my time spent on it to original work I could make something of but for a really long time I haven't been able to enjoy writing anything that isn't weird fanfic.

Anon I'm in an almost identical position - writing unfashionable fanfic tropes because I enjoy it and I find it a good safety valve, but feeling guilty that i'm not putting that time and energy into something wholesome and original.

Reading your comment instinctively made me think that you have nothing to feel guilty about and using your creativity as a form of catharsis is a perfectly valid use of your time. Guess I have to work on feeling that way for myself now too lol

I adore weird fanfic. Honestly, for some reason it comes off as so much more fresh and real than the default drabbles I find on a day to day basis. So I say do it, because I know for a fact someone will appreciate it.

I've only gotten five requests for a Six Fanarts Challenge, and filled them all, and I don't think I'll ever get a sixth one. Should I call it quits, post nonetheless the incomplete results, or wait possibly forever?
I'm so disgruntled at this friend who "liked" the post but never requested anything, as if my art is good enough for plebes but not for them to be associated with it.

Re: To post or not to post?

(Anonymous) 2020-05-23 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Why don't you choose the last one to draw? Or just pretend it was a request...

I've been working on a long fic and it's maybe a third done. I really want to post it, but I'm guilty of leaving stuff unfinished and I don't want to post this one unless I'm all done with it.

Re: To post or not to post?

(Anonymous) 2020-05-24 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand this completely. I love writing, and have gotten oh so far with so many of them, but I don't thing I've ever finished anything in my entire life. My best bet to you, is to finish it, before you post, because there's no stress to keep up with chapters you can't be for certain are actually coming. Maybe if you need that extra boost post an open ended oneshot of sorts that can stand on it's own but in actuality begins the story you want to post?
I wish you the best, and I hope you find the want to finish your piece!

Re: To post or not to post?

This dilemma is practically eating my life. Because my fics vary a lot in how smutty they are. Because I'm torn whether to post them under a recognizable handle. Because my fics keep turning into OOC smuff but it also matters to me for my public fics to not be that way. Because I'm afraid of offending people who might have characteristics similar to my OC (and yet I have the same characteristics so why should I worry about that)?

Re: To post or not to post?

(Anonymous) 2020-05-23 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
A fic for a themed challenge. My fics are not the best. On the other hand I think that our fandom needs more content regardless the quality, just as a padding, to get juices flowing for other writers.
