I've been having this trouble because what I write about is really cringe or at least I'm aware other people think so but I enjoy doing it and that type of content brings me comfort. I'm just afraid of what other people think even though I'm anon online and no one really cares about it really. I also feel guilty in the sense I could be dedicating my time spent on it to original work I could make something of but for a really long time I haven't been able to enjoy writing anything that isn't weird fanfic.

Anon I'm in an almost identical position - writing unfashionable fanfic tropes because I enjoy it and I find it a good safety valve, but feeling guilty that i'm not putting that time and energy into something wholesome and original.

Reading your comment instinctively made me think that you have nothing to feel guilty about and using your creativity as a form of catharsis is a perfectly valid use of your time. Guess I have to work on feeling that way for myself now too lol

Thank you. Knowing there are people who feel similar is comforting and gives me some confidence <3

I adore weird fanfic. Honestly, for some reason it comes off as so much more fresh and real than the default drabbles I find on a day to day basis. So I say do it, because I know for a fact someone will appreciate it.

Aw, thanks. I guess it wouldn't be writing for nothing if there are people out there that appreciate it and feel comforted by it too. If I feel comfort and joy out of reading similar content than the other people who also read/create it must feel the same and I guess that's nothing to be ashamed of if you're a part of that.

And fanfic is the perfect place to write the sort of things you wouldn't be able to for original work you would want to be for a larger and more public audience.
