I'm really annoyed whenever Netflix gets a license for something older on their platform or adapt something and there's this new wave of fans that act like it's entirely new when it's not. It's had an established fanbase for years and they basically start pushing out the older fans instead of joining them. We're starting to see this with A:TLA, we saw it with The Witcher (I've read some of the books and I'm really big into the video games), there's plenty of older anime.

I feel like it's petty to be annoyed about it and really, it is. But it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth when instead of joining a fandom they basically create a new one and ignore the older fanbase and their established fanon and work. If this makes any sense at all. Basically it's the "my town now" meme.

Being very very honest with you, I think it's not just petty but ridiculous and I'm very happy when new fans show up in my fandoms bc Netflix has made them accessible. I don't understand territorialism one bit.

I've seen this a few times in bandom. Mind you, in my experience, it was really rare for a younger fan to act like they've just discovered a brand new thing and start dissing all the older fans. The vast majority of the baby fans were eager to have an established fandom to join, but some were hesitant because there were older fans who were assholes and acted like they never said cringy shit when they were baby fans. However, I have seen a few baby fans who were appalled at the number of "old" people in their fandom spaces (for a band whose youngest member was almost forty), but they never lasted too long with that attitude.

I've only seen the "new fans pushing away old fans" phenomenon in fandoms where the intended demographic is young, and so the new fans tend to be... Young.

So I don't really hold it against them.

ignoring established fanon is always great, sorry.
