Weirdly, people have sort of softened on Showgirls (https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/features/showgirls-elizabeth-berkley-paul-verhoeven-you-dont-nomi-documentary-a9407086.html).

I liked Total Recall, I think Starship Troopers was great because it worked as both a satire and an action movie for me, and I find Basic Instinct unsettlingly interesting, but I couldn't watch all of Robocop, the violence was too much. I think you're probably right, though, about Hollywood.
