1) I used to post WIP as a means to motivate myself to keep writing and complete my fic instead of letting it rot and go unfinished. YMMV with this approach. Sometimes it worked for me, other times it didn't.

2) Some writers have stage fright of sorts with their fics and I have encouraged friends to post their fics so the fandom can read it. They tended to post it up while telling us all, "This is my crappy fic, please don't be too mean," because they genuinely afraid they're a bad writer. Not to say some do write things like that to fish for compliments but whatever. I would rather fans post fics up rather than not.
