139. *sigh* war comedy != making fun of the actual war. Hetalia is more concerned of finding little known facts or factoids around the war and it's not ONLY about the WWs periods either. It's like an education manga that uses humor to make it palatable to digest the information. Not to say it can be offensive especially the stereotypes that makes part of the Nations' character, it isn't offensive in that light. Hell, Mighty Python and The History of the World, Part 1 were way more offensive in that area than Hetalia ever was (Spanish Inquisition, anyone?). You will not find anything in Hetalia that will go "LOL HOLOCAUST", it actually tries not to delve too much into dark matters like that and it does have serious strips dealing the darker things as well.

And even though people have been slashing countries before Hetalia, the countries in the manga are more like immortal avatars to the countries and they do have their own personalities midst the stereotypes and the slashing comes with the historical relationship between countries. Oh please, if it was full of het ships, no one would complain one bit, so come off it.

154. Seriously, I think you need to quit it if you have no passion for it. It's one thing that Atticus inspired you into law and when things get rough and he's the character you draw strength on, and your case. Your life is your own, not what others dictate it because you're the one who has to live it. There is an off-chance that you'll grow to love it but if it causing you that much agony, I think you should think it over, even if it's going against your parents (although you're old enough to say no to them). I know how hard it could be because I was in your shoes when I was in college and studying psychology. Your parents will be pissed, but they'll prolly come around someday. Nothing is worse waking up at 40 and realized out basically spent half of your life doing something you hated. Plus this isn't an easy career, it will take a lot of you to do well.

First of all, you don't know me. Second of all, that whole paragraph was about shipping. I don't doubt Hetalia would get some unwarranted shit anyway. But the OP said "making countries gay", nothing about shipping countries in general then I wouldn't say anything other "people ship other countries all the time". Lol, I do get out. Hell, I've been with my friends in Barnes and Noble and there were these girls in the manga section talking about pairings (can't remember for which series) and they all agreed het was boring and yaoi was the only thing acceptable. I rolled my eyes and waited for my friends to get some mangas and leave (couldn't buy any myself because I had no money on me after the movie, I love popcorn and candy too much, woe D: )

Maybe we just have different experiences of annoying fans? I am sorry I've been rude to you, it's just these "My kink gets more crap then your's!" battles irritate the fuck out of me. From BOTH het and slash sides of fandom. Lets just love our pairings and leave things be.

As for the secret maker...yeah, I just read his/her comments a few pages later and he/she may be one of those "ICKY ICKY YAOI" people, but not all of us het fans (or whatever that person is in to) are. Like how not all slash fans hate women and het or whatever.

We can call a truce. I dunno, I get razzed on by my IRL friends who knows I like BL, but not fans of it themselves. I don't mind it most of the time, although it irks me when they forget I like het too. And that I've been in many a debate defending people who are just awful to BL fangirls and the occasional secret that paints fujoshi as tasteless fans who would get into a fandom for the buttsex and the bishies. But I have defended het too from the crazed yaoi fans but rarely.

I know all het only fans aren't all "ICKY ICKY YAOI" people as well since all my IRL friends don't care for it but don't go on a rampage about it. But this secret had a issue with the countries being gay not being shipped in general. I would've said something different. And it seems like the OP had an issue with the BL saying "it might improve the quality of the fandom" if it were all het ships.

As somebody who doesn't tend towards either het or slash (I-I really like gen!), may I throw in my two cents?

BOTH sides get flak: Yaoi/slash because of its growing popularity and the fact that yaoi-exclusive fans are stereotyped as brainless fangirls, and het because by its very nature it must be anti-homosexual and het-exclusive fans are stereotyped as brainless intolerant fangirls.

So I can understand you both feeling as if your veiwpoint is constantly being attacked! Because both totally are. >__>;;
