Besides, Hetalia hasn't done anything of the level of offensive. When it actually makes fun of the Holocaust, give me a holler because they didn't do anything of the sort.

And Hetalia is far, far the first example. The Producers did worse and only around 30-40 years after WW2.

Guess what... I don't live in the states. I'm assuming it's not white folk calling black folk the names, though.

I know about the Producers, I'm a huge fan of Blackadder. Comedy is made of war all the time.

I'm saying that something about Hetalia gets me the wrong way. It's the fact that it doesn't account for the horrors of war. Hetalia almost isn't the issue, though... it's anon telling me to get over myself for experiencing pain. That is the disrespect I'm offended by.

It had a sketch on white people saying, FYI.

Ever think why they avoid such a sensitive subject by not making strips of it? Who knows, maybe Hidekaz would write about it someday. But he doesn't protray war as this happy, fun time to be in either.

And I think people are pissed that people are telling them that they're insensitive about what happened by enjoying Hetalia. I think a lot of people are defending the series because it doesn't do half the stuff people accused it of.

So it became a jumbled mess of wank.

My Grandmother loves the Producers. She's an eighty-two-year-old woman who had to escape from Vienna in 1938 before the Nazis killed her and her entire family for being Jewish, escaping to a country on the other side of the world (and believe me, rural Australia is a bit of a difference to Vienna, especially to a twelve-year-old who's just had to abandon her entire life to come to a country where she doesn't speak a word of the language).

Just sayin'.

You act like Hetalia is specifically pointing these things out and making fun of them as they are. Hetalia doesn't make fun of WWII, it makes fun of silly historical tidbits, such as Italy being a horrible ally for the Axis Powers in WWII because it kept losing battles and needing to be bailed out by Germany. It avoids the serious stuff, or treds on it delicately, specifically to keep the humor because it is at its core a COMEDY. People love making fun of history.

Stand up comedians have been making jokes about the n-word since the seventies. Again, you seem to think Hetalia is making fun of WWII attrocities, when it's not trying to show them in a positive light. It's just avoiding them.

I personally think that a comedy that deliberately ignores the futility of war is doing it wrong. I think there's no point talking about war without acknowledging how fundamentally stupid it is. But that's not the point.

The point is that people are telling someone who feels pain as a direct consequence of WWII isn't allowed to feel that pain, or that that pain has a due by date, or isn't legitimate. It is. And being told it isn't is offensive.

The comic never portrays the war as a good thing. Ever. If a war or violent event is portrayed as anything, it's portrayed negatively.

No, they're telling people to stop saying 'I'M ASHAMED OF YOU' because they can laugh at history. The secret doesn't say 'I'm offended', it says 'I'm ashamed of you guys', and people are responding to this personal attack.
