I think some people are saying to lighten up not because feeling pain about the consequences is stupid, but because it seems as though reading Hetalia and laughing at it makes it the most horrible thing ever. Hetalia barely even touches those subjects because the author knows how horrible it was. And it's not as though it's the only thing that has people learn about history, but it teaches it in a light-hearted manner.

Yeah, I thought the 'lighten up' comments were in response to 'liking Hetalia makes you a bad person' rather than 'this offends me but like what you want' or whatever. It's not 'get over WWII' it's 'get over people laughing at WWII', which I believe you've said you have, so I think this is all just ONE GIANT WANKY MISUNDERSTANDING.
