I hate the ones where the crap person goes free too.

Just the other day I caught the end of an Adam-12 episode on one of those retro channels and someone arrested for making drugs or something went free on a technicality. Whomp whomp.

There have been episodes where the writers on SVU (not familiar enough with the Mothership to comment on that) have come back to the Criminal That Got Away With It in order to finally get them. It's a bit of continuity I always appreciate.

There have been episodes I watched where the bad guy gets away and it ruins my day.

I really love this about Law & Order, tbh. I grew up with 70s/80s tv which was mostly bubblegum happytime garbage shit. Star Trek was the only thing that offered any kind of emotional challenge. Law & Order came out in '90. That show was raw back in the day and I loved it!

THIS.
I go to fandom/fanfic for exactly this reason - not reality, happy ending every time.
I don't like shows that end on grim-dark endings, and when it's SVU, i *really* hate the 'guilty going free' eps. Blech.

It wasn't grimdark I guess, but that was the thing that sort of turned me off the movie Chicago.

Like, I enjoyed it as it went along and the songs are fun and stuff. I have the soundtrack.

But then I spent a minute thinking how like...everybody who's an asshole/murderer in that movie 'wins'. And that's just kind of depressing.

Have you seen All Rise? Completely different tone than L&O, but it's a legal show and the good guys almost always win. I've seen people criticize it for that reason, because it's "unrealistic" but these days I'm fine with a happy show, even if it's unrealistic.
