Definitely a case by case basis for me, but I typically don't like it when people think they are being oh so original and clever just because they modernized something. The adaptation needs something MORE than that, imo.

IMO if someone feels the need to modernize a story to that extent than that's not the story they actually want to tell and it's possible to tell stories with the same topics and themes but in a modern setting. So I'm just...what's the point of trying to adapt it (likely again).
