Yeah, it's pretty common for children of neglectful/abusive parents to go on to become bad parents themselves because they often don't even realize how bad what was done to them was. They've normalized a lot of things that are absolutely not normal or healthy.

One of my friends grew up in an abusive household and it's taken her years of therapy just to realize how much it's affected her entire life and personality. It's not always immediately obvious.
