I'm just happy that it's dying out and I don't have to hear about it as much any more.

In a way, the fact that the series glossed over the animal abuse until the end is part of the problem.

This. This is my biggest problem with the series. They could have actually made a big difference by bringing the animal abuse to the public conscience. They just...didn't.

I get your point, but that wasn't their goal. Every piece of artistic media that is created for entertainment could've been about a nobler cause, including all the books, TV shows and movies you enjoy. It seems like a peculiar complaint.

But this wasn't just any piece of entertainment. This was reality tv made about real people who abuse real animals. Instead they vilainized the one person they featured who actually was trying to help the abused animals and in doing so harmed her business that helps abused animals. Rather than using their series about animal abusers to do some good they actively did the opposite.

Yeah, it was 100% a shitty thing to do, and you'll get no argument from me there. But my point stands. It makes just as much sense to get mad at McDonald's for selling shitty fast food burgers instead of just being a food pantry for the less privileged.

Shes just as bad tho and saying shes not is huge lie she profits of tigers and animals all the same but yes the abuse sucks but its not like you can really do anything about it and i dont support animal abuse i am glad its dying off as a trend i just think its crime drama tv something to watch

No she's not. In the beginning she didn't know what she was doing and her and her charity did things the wrong way. Then they learned. Now they do it the right way and save animals. Anyone who says otherwise hasn't done the proper research and is buying into the lies of this show or the smear campaign against her.

I resisted watching this for a long time so actually watched it when most of the hype was already dying embers.

Do I wish the animal abuse had perhaps been highlighted a bit more? Sure. But I also know viewers can care about that while also being entertained by the endless "wtf?" reaction caused by watching a bunch of garbage humans. I honestly feel it was mostly the timing of its release that was just too perfect. It dropped around the same time most of us were locking down I think? I can get why laughing about shitty people might be entertaining during a pretty big worldwide life event where most of our daily routines were completely ruined.

And on a personal opinion note I don't know how the fuck Doc kinda flew under the radar of most people. He creeped me out the MOST.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
THIS, all of this, including (especially, actually) the Doc thing. That's still the most wtf thing about it to me!

Also, op, I'm with you, but that's just... the way fandom culture is these days, I guess.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-01 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Doc is more media savvy than the others, he'd never make some of the basic mistakes Joe Exotic made, like filming himself talking about his crimes.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, you don't care about animal abuse. Can we shut up about this already?

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, found the person who wants to congratulate themselves on their compassion.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
is it such a snowflake thing to be to not want to deal with animal abuse?

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course not. But you've moved the goalposts in an attempt to win your argument. Nobody actually argued that it's a snowflake thing to not want to deal with animal abuse. But that's not what the secret says.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, go me! Now please let the thing die.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm just disgusted by the entire thing, top to bottom, and I genuinely don't understand what people get out of it. Whatever appetite people have for watching other people be hot garbage--I just don't have it, even a little.

That said, the only place I've even acknowledged this show's existence is on F!S. I'm not on tumblr or facebook or whatever, going on about how people shouldn't be watching the show. I kind of wish it didn't exist, because it seems like it misrepresents some things it really shouldn't misrepresent. But beyond that, I'd rather just ignore it entirely.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-01 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad I didn't have time to watch this. It sounds like more trash reality television on a streaming service that I don't need to waste any time on.

I'm positive people are being superior but I also think media criticism is a dying mindset, like this is a pretty easy documentary where if you watch the first ep which purports to be about animal abuse and then you watch the rest, you should be able to say "oh wow the POV of this is truly fucked" not repeat opinions by interested parties in the doc like they're fact.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-01 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
I'm one of those "handwringers" but I am not at all self-congratulatory because I'm the first to admit I'm only sensitive to animal abuse and can stomach the most appalling documentaries about abuse of humans, no problem. I'm not a good person, I just really love animals.
