They weren't supposed to be hot.

One was supposed to look a wreck after spending twelve years wasting away in a prison, the other looks like hell because he's dirt poor and has a serious health condition. Why would you assume either of them were hot?

The film wasn't the best ever, especially with the fact that it failed to properly explain the Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs thing, and how Lupin knew about the map, and the werewolf was fucking TERRIBLE. In the top five worst werewolves list, for sure. Looked like a werewhippet. Load of shite.

Also it didn't focus anywhere NEAR enough on the fact that Patronuses take ANIMAL form.

But it's far from the worst film.

Werewhippet. Oh my lord.

I've been trying for years to come up with the single best word to describe the shittiness of Lupin's werewolf transformation for years, and now I'd like to thank you for finishing my work for me and coming up with the perfect descriptor: werewhippet. That's it exactly! It's brilliant! And now I can move on with my life!

Also, I agree with everything else you said, but I wanted to focus mainly on werewhippet because that is seriously hilarious and accurate!

Werewhippet is an amazing term! It was shown up by TV shows like Doctor Who and Being Human as well because at least the werewolves in those had some actual hair, height and muscle and weren't basically a skinny human with dog skin, but the dog has been shaved for some reason.

Neither of these things preclude being hot, especially if you're into that

is it possible they could have been somehow still considered hot? sure, it's in the realm of possibilities.

were they supposed to be hot, as in there was some existing description of the characters that expressly said they were and by making casting and wardrobe choices that were not hot they were violating canon? hell to the no. fandom built up this idea of Remus and Sirius well in advance of the movies so they had no choice but to be disappointed that it didn't match fanon.

It's a weird one because the casting choices did violate canon, and I think the odds are that more canonical castings would also have been hotter, especially for Lupin, even though the hotness is not the thing that's un-canonical

The werewhippet was especially egregious because they kept in the whole thing about "how to tell the difference between a wolf and a werewolf" and the answers were more complicated than "look at it"

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah that makes no sense with the visuals in the film.

I liked the "werewhippet" specifically because of literally all the words you just said, though.

Neither of them were hot because of everything they'd been through. Remus' werewolf wasn't a big, strong, tough, fluffy boi because he deliberately "starved" it. The wolf was neglected, so it appeared neglected. Just like the boys. THEMATIC! (Imagine I'm throwing confetti.) It's cool because it's a pretty stark contrast to Fenrir, who leaned WAY in and so his wolf was much bigger and stronger.
