I watched it with a nostalgic friend last year. It was my first time seeing it, and I actually liked it pretty well. I'd seen about 15 years of complaining about how bad it was and how Miaka was the worst main character ever, but when I watched it for my friend I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe it actually works better without nostalgia goggles?

Yeah, I found Miaka to be a pretty realistic and relatable 15-year-old. She's a teenager and she acts like it, and the best part is that you get to see her mature over the course of the series. I liked her just fine as a main character because she DOES grow and mature and learn.
