Did I specifically define feminazi? Okay, lemme do that. They are not the same as feminists. Feminists want equal rights. Feminazis are an extreme stereotype about burning bras, feeling oppressed because a guy opened a door for you and allowed you to go first, and sexist with seething hatred at anyone with a Y chromosome.

On the other hand, invading Poland sounds like a lotta fun.

I'm not saying that some stereotypes don't exist in real life. What I'm saying is that a writer can take character's beliefs and blow them out of proportion that few people relate with in life, like setting up a straw man (straw woman, in this case).

Thanks for clarifying. I got the feeling that you mean that so-called feminazis were pretty much a straw man argument but I wasn't sure.

(I've actually never met one of these feminazis in real life, and I've been around a lot of feminists.)

Feminazis are a rare creature, thriving mainly in the fevered minds of creepy men convinced that the women's lib movement is to blame for why no women will touch them, but also in the minds of misogynist girls who desperately posture about how they're cool because they're not "one of those feminazis!".

Feminazi is a term coined by Rush Limbaugh to degrade feminists and create strawman arguments.

And on that note, I'd really love to know where these extreme stereotypes of Y chromosome hating women are in literature. I can't think of ever reading any off the top of my head. They might be out there, but I think rumors of their presence have been greatly exaggerated.

Fanon*Wufei? My knowledge of actual canon on Gundam Wing is limited to Endless Waltz, and the fanbase scared me away eons ago. Uh huh. Duo definitely hacks his wrists for Heero weeping a recitation of "Annabel Lee."

Joanna Russ. And Marion Zimmer Bradley to a degree. I admit that they are really rare, though.

This stuff always reminds me of Ursula LeGuin commenting on one of her stories that people critizied The Left Hand of Darkness for always using male pronouns. She then wrote a story in the same world and used female pronouns exclusively, and commented "Now I've offended all the people I didn't offend the first time."

Right. And I'll say it again: Feminism =/= Feminazism. It's the authors who write that stereotype who aren't helping: I never said all feminists are feminazis. I thought I made it clear in my comment that feminists are about equal rights.

Replying with your own sarcasm and hyperbole doesn't display your acknowledgment of the previous poster's sarcasm. Seems like you were just taking issue with the term "feminazi" rather than pausing to reflect on the original statement (which was putting forth the idea that women in fiction are usually pigeonholed into two categories).

In any case, don't you see the complete irony in castigating other women over the use of the term "feminism" as if it were some kind of sacred institution?

Actually, the OP had no such clarity in her original statement. I was taking issue with the term "Feminazi." Used in that context it seems absolutely unironic.

There's no irony in shouting people down because they're comparing feminist ideology to Nazi-ism, which is what I was doing. But, even if it were the situation you presented - no, there's no irony there, unless I missed the tenant of feminism where I'm supposed to be super nice to women and shit.

Your persistent stalking of what seems like every thread on here just to nitpick people's PC-ness concerning word-usage relative to how oppressed you feel as a woman or a feminist is the kind of behavior really giving feminism a bad name.

Get a fucking hobby. Try horseriding. You may not have noticed, but we're no longer required to go sidesaddle, so yolu may find it an enlightening and relaxing experience.
