I think it is less about women being kickass and more that women characters have agency and their own identity. It isn't about strength and weakness it is about them being portrayed as human and as equals. I.E. female characters not being given any interest or passions outside of getting a man, or throwing out those interests and passions for the sake of a man.

We just need more female characters with actual agency, and less that come across as damsels who are passed around with no real personality or will of their own.

I should have used a better phrase than "cute & feminine." What I meant by that was women who are afraid that if they're too loud, too independent, or too "feminist" (GOD FORBID), men won't like them.

Sorry about my comment up there. LOL I had it up and then decided ... yeah, I don't want to really start wank. (And I'm not saying that you did. I'm just not feeling INTERNET DRAMA-Y tonight. LOL)

But I totally understand what you're saying, and I agree with you. I hate when the woman's ONLY role is to fawn all over the guy and have no personality of her own. No, I prefer the females to be their own person, but I also don't see why it's ZOMG THE END OF THE WORLD when a girl decides she wants to do something to make a guy happy. Or vice-versa. As long as the love interest is not their WHOLE DAMN LIFE, I don't see how it's bad to want to make someone else happy.

And I also don't see it as weakness to want to have someone to share your time/life with. That's just faulty logic. (Not directed at YOU, of course, just in general.)

I agree with you. I should have worded my comment more carefully, but I was pissed. :P

It's fine to want to make your lover happy (man, women, whoever). Feminism is not about never being nice to men, which is why it pisses me off so much when people like

shire_wench paint it that way, because it's basically the newest method of trying to shut feminists up.

Oh, yeah, I definitely get that. Feminism, to me, is just about, you know, having the CHOICE to do whatever it is you want to do. Without anyone telling you that you can't. Or that it's wrong. I think it's totally possible to be a housewife and a feminist, as an example. As long is that is the life that the woman has chosen for herself, then hey, who's to tell her it's wrong?

And I hate the idea that you're not a "true" feminist if you OMG ACTUALLY LIKE MEN. That's ridiculous. Men are very nice to have around ... most of the time. ;p

Basically, I'm just tired of seeing people say "THIS IS HOW WOMEN ARE SUPPOSED TO BE." Because "supposed to be" or not, not every woman is the same. I just want to see some more HUMAN female characters. Flaws, foibles, and all.

There is a balance there, but I also think it would be nice to show a woman who is happy to be single and fulfilled because I think that is something that isn't put out enough either, particularly for woman where even if they do have agency and strength still are lassoed to a man, as if that is how everyone's life has to be, but that is a criticism of the trend as opposed to individual characters.

I don't think a lot of people are bothered by a girl doing things to make a guy happy as long as she isn't the only one doing it and it isn't her only reason for being. If a girl is doing those things and getting nothing return, or she is doing things to make a guy happy and that is put forth as her whole desire and reason for being to the detriment of everything else in her life then yes, that is a problem.

I know what it is like to like female characters that everyone else hates or calls a Sue, but I think we just need more diverse women.
