I really liked her first few books. I was totally into Anita. She was a badass right until she started fucking Jean-Claude then it all went to shit. I quit the series right after that and haven't looked back. I do know if Anita had kept being so awesome instead of a fang-hag I would have read the rest of the books.

Have you ever tried the Hollows Series by Kim Harrison? It's been a while since I read it last but it's got a similar "badass supernatural detective chick" concept without...all that mess.

NAYRT, but I have read that series and I do recommend it, with the caveat that if you're interested in anyone other than the lead character and her love interest, maybe skip the last one. That was... some unfortunate conclusions to some character arcs there.

AYRT Agreed. Gosh I even /shipped/ that and it was a bizarre wrap up.

Urban fantasy's a trip! It's a genre I like, but I can't think of a single series that I can recommend without any reservations.

For me, Faith Hunter's Jane Yellowrock series scratches the same itch that the Anita Blake series used to scratch, but does a lot better job of it.
