Which is a bizzaro shame, since JRRT has his problems, but he does write men who are allowed to grieve, cry, and talk about their undying platonic love for each other. Not to mention that the entire POINT is that Sauron is destroyed not by warfare but by underestimated, peace-loving people. I still remember the first time I read Gimli finding out that his people in Moria had been massacred and tearing up at 2 in the morning.
