I'm currently re-watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and yeah, mixed feelings. It's probably not the kind of cop show you're talking about and is as woke as it gets, but still.

I wonder how many cop shows will get cancelled/dropped/not renewed after this ...

(Anonymous) 2020-06-06 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspect CBS will be fine picking up as many cop shows as they want, their demographic isn't going to stop watching em.

Can't wait to 'til my mom tells me about the completely shitshow episode of Blue Bloods they'll make next season regarding the riots and how they've hurt so many brave men and women in blue. I hate that fucking show so much. WTF is CBS gonna do when the white boomers all die off?

I was already thinking about quitting B99, and this will give me the final push out the door, but I'm still sad thinking about the past seasons and how much I enjoyed them.

I've not been feeling BB9 for a while now. I loved it in the earlier seasons but it just ran out of steam. And everything going on at the moment adds another dimension to it where I'm not sure I can be bothered anymore.

Though I do kinda like the suggestions that I've seen involving everyone waking up and suddenly being in a different profession and nobody references the change, it's just accepted.

yeaaah, b99 is the only cop related thing i watch anymore and... can they all just be moved to working in another profession? i like these characters but even for how 'woke' the show is, i'm done.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-06 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel you. It's not just shows for me, I can't even enjoy stripper cops anymore. It's too much.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-06 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never been much of a fan of the genre, but after this I'll stop watching B99, which was the one cop show I did love. I simply don't see how they can address this situation in a way that doesn't turn into 'a few bad apples' propaganda.

Even when I tried watching stuff from other countries, there was always this framing that rights are something that get in the way of police work and need to be ignored or worked around. I don’t know where that comes from. I would assume that television scriptwriters benefit from having rights and wouldn’t want to give them up.

Wasn't that cop corrupt and the major the bad guy of Chicaco Fire s1? I never understood how we were supposed to buy him as a good guy on Chicago PD and couldn't get into the show because of it.

B99 is the only cop show I'm still watching. I'm also wondering how they are planning on handling the current situation.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, whenever I catch glimpses of this show, that guy's always doing something fucky. Thoguht he was dirty.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-06 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, so they actually made him a full on hero on Chicago PD? I used to watch Fire and he was literally the villain when he first showed, I figured the PD would keep him that way but I also stopped Fire soon after so I never caught crossovers. Still, hero, huh.

IDK about cop shows, as pretty much everyone who commented, I only watch B99. I never got the appeal of cop dramas, like half of what they do is super unrealistic. I love unrealistic tv but in the form of fantasy and SciFi, not looking for it in dramas.

They want you to root for him, he's the boss character, and yet they haven't changed him all that much. They want you to believe he's flawed but ultimately good because he's trying to do the right thing by getting the bad guys. My parents watch the show. I couldn't get into it mostly because of him, even when I was into cop shows.

yea same. i haven't watched a cop show in a bit, but recently i've even been thinking about like. fucking cop aus and shit? and it all just feels fucking bad.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-06 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd stopped watching S.W.A.T. a few months ago b/c of the way they handled Chris' backstory (a latina bisexual female swat officer) and her motivation to become S.W.A.T. (TW/Spoiler: it involved gang rape)

And now I'm just not wanting to go back to it all. Even though Hondo is black and the leader of the team and there was a decent minority cast. Hondo abuses his power too.

They can't seem to get away from it.

At least in detective cop murder of the week shows, you know it doesn't really work like that.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
Ah what the fuck? I'm not caught up with S.W.A.T. yet but I kinda liked watching it mindlessly for the high-intensity action sequences. That sucks.

Even before everything that's happened recently I've felt like 99% of all cop shows are propaganda.

B99 is the only cop show I watch, and when it ends I doubt I will ever watch another.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
The only cop shows I have truly enjoyed are Reno 911 and B99. While I recognize that B99 is copaganda, it's such a fantasy world I'm not at at all fooled by it. Relatives who have worked in law enforcement jobs have said the incompetent jackasses on Reno and Hitchcock & Scully are the most realistic cops on tv, for what it's worth.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
my enjoyment of cop-shows has only steadily declined over the years as it is, but even my love of B99 is not going to weather everything going on tbh. there's only so much i can shove it away as fantasy and i've hit that limit. even enjoying comedy that makes jokes about the system isn't something i can stand to watch anymore, especially when it still handles those topics with kid-gloves and i'm done with that viewpoint on it.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
I've hated cops shows for many years because they frame abusive and immoral cop techniques as being necessary and even good. I wish more people would realize these shows are all propaganda.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Funny, I've had the exact opposite reaction. I'm more pro-cop than ever before.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Of course you are, bootlicker.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-09 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
With the hundreds of videos of unprovoked, extreme police violence against protesters over the last week, this can only mean you approve of violence committed against black people and their allies.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-07 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
i quit watching pd ehen Sophia bush left the show. idk what went on behind the scenes but it must have been bad bc there was very little info about it. and they replaced her with a (in comparison) dull person.
the only chicago shows i continued are med andnfire although i havent seen much of them lately bc my ehm streaming sources are lacking
