I've explained why this solution isn't as easy as people seem to think, but here goes again... Sometimes, these threads are started by people who aren't secret makers. They might have a secret they want made and they know there are others in the same boat, and that's fine.

As someone else has pointed out, this solution also doesn't work very well because starting a comment secret thread can really blow up. Have you seen them? Sometimes there are dozens of secrets. You don't know how many comments there will be, and it's a potentially large commitment of time that not everyone can/will put in to making secrets.

I've been making secrets for this community for years now and let me gently suggest that:

1) Maybe duplicates aren't really that serious of a problem? Comment secrets have been a thing for ages, and duplicates don't pop up very often.

2) Maybe allow the people doing the work of secret making to decide how they want to handle it instead of trying to dictate to them how they should handle it?

If case feels this is a problem that needs addressing, I'm sure he's more than capable of addressing it himself. I'm certainly open and willing to listen to any suggestions case has. So far, all the suggestions I've seen are impractical for one reason or another.

Comment secrets have been a thing for ages, and duplicates don't pop up very often.

Because Case is doing the work to filter them all out, not because there aren't a lot of them being submitted.

If case feels this is a problem that needs addressing, I'm sure he's more than capable of addressing it himself.

I agree we should've let Case address it if he wanted to. That said, the people rushing in are probably just concerned for Case, because often mods feel obligated to take on whatever extra work there is in order to keep things running smoothly.

Has case actually said that there have been a lot of duplicate secrets*? I missed it, if so. If it would make things easier for case, I'd be all in favor of not bothering to filter out the duplicates. Most people who've voiced an opinion on the matter agree, citing that it's to see the different designs. To me, this seems like the easiest solution all round.

* To clarify, NOT secrets accidentally submitted more than once but actual different submissions.
