Yeah, no, you're right.

It's just his childhood name, which they already KNOW is Yuan (his literal introduction frame in episode one calls him Lan Yuan; Lan Wangji didn't change it at all, just his family name), so if they aren't already calling him that, they're not going to start now.

Also I don't think his peers WOULD even call him A-Yuan even if they used that name for him, like how Jiang Cheng was only A-Cheng to his parents and Yanli, for example, not to Wei Wuxian, who was more his equal.
