Fic writing woes

(Anonymous) 2020-06-13 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
The other day, in my media of choice that I'm catching up on, I saw a sad thing happen. I banged out 3/4 of a fanfic for catharsis before continuing. In the next part, the sad thing was resolved. My drive to finish the fic is gone because I no longer have the burning Feels. But I do want to finish it. Sigh.

I know this feel. Did the same thing in October, pumped out 39 pages within the span of 10 days with feels and drama, even with partial resolution. It's taking me forever to fill in the gaps.

Also only have the epilogue of a current (mostly drama) WIP to complete. Story first posted in 2018, last chapter in 2019. WHY IS FINISHING SHIT SO HARD. Though I guess it really feels like all the important stuff is over anyway...

Ooh, I feel this. I have all the “fun” parts of my fic done. The ending’s done too. It’s just a matter of filling in the middle and I really hate that part. So boring.

Oh, that sucks. I'm trying to hammer out a... I guess it's a crossover? And I'm working out the rules, how things are going to work on like a mechanical level, but the actual STORY... that's sort of... not happening.
Yet! I'm hoping that's a 'not yet', but ehhhhhhh. Plot is hard.

Sometimes it can help ti focus mroe on the characters -- let them inhabit the world and run around free, and see what they get up to.
